Scandinavian design is known for its minimalist aesthetic, functional furniture, and clean lines. While this style creates a serene and beautiful home environment, it can pose some unique challenges when it comes to childproofing, especially when it comes to glass doors.

Glass doors are common in Scandinavian homes, providing a seamless connection to the outdoors and flooding interiors with natural light. However, they can also present safety hazards for curious little ones.

For today’s blog, we’ll explore some essential tips and tricks to childproof your Scandinavian home and ensure glass door safety for your children.

  • Understand the Risks

Before you start childproofing your home, it’s crucial to understand the risks associated with glass doors. Glass doors can be a source of accidents, as children may not always recognize the presence of the door and run into it, potentially leading to injuries.

Additionally, the glass can shatter if subjected to enough force, posing a danger of cuts or other injuries. You can better address these risks with effective childproofing strategies by understanding them.

  • Install Childproof Locks

One of the most effective ways to childproof glass doors is by installing childproof locks or latches. These locks can prevent children from opening the doors and accessing potentially hazardous areas, such as outdoor spaces or rooms with delicate items.

Various types of locks are available, including adhesive locks, sliding locks, and handle covers, which can be discreetly integrated into your Scandinavian design.

  • Use Frosted or Privacy Film

Frosted or privacy film is a fantastic solution for maintaining the aesthetics of your glass doors while enhancing safety. This film can be applied to the glass surface to obscure the view and make it less appealing for children to approach.

It reduces the chances of children running into the glass and adds a touch of elegance to your interior design. Plus, it’s easy to apply and remove when no longer needed.

  • Consider Reinforced Glass

If you’re designing your Scandinavian home from scratch or planning a renovation, consider using reinforced or tempered glass for your doors. These types of glass are more robust and less likely to shatter upon impact.

While they may be a bit more expensive, they provide parents safety and peace of mind.

  • Install Door Stopper Devices

Door stopper devices can prevent glass doors from swinging too forcefully or slamming shut, which could be dangerous for small fingers.

These devices are easy to install and can be discreetly placed at the top or bottom of the door, depending on your needs. They enhance safety and reduce noise levels, making your home more child-friendly.

  • Add Decals or Stickers

Decorative decals or stickers can serve a dual purpose in your Scandinavian home. You can use them to add a touch of personality to your glass doors while making them more visible to children.

Brightly colored stickers or decals in playful shapes can draw attention to the doors and help kids recognize their presence.

  • Create a Buffer Zone

Incorporate furniture or other design elements that create a buffer zone between glass doors and play areas. Adding a sofa, bookshelf, or other furniture pieces can create a physical barrier that discourages children from approaching the doors at high speeds.

It also adds to the functionality of your space, giving you additional seating or storage options.

  • Teach Safe Behavior

Childproofing is not just about physical barriers; it’s also about education. Teach your children about the potential dangers of glass doors and how to use them safely.

Encourage them to slow down, check for obstacles, and always ask for assistance when opening or closing the doors. This proactive approach can go a long way in preventing accidents.

  • Regular Maintenance

Keep your glass doors in good condition by performing regular maintenance. Check for loose or damaged hardware, such as handles or locks, and replace them. Ensure the glass is free of cracks or chips, as damaged glass is more likely to shatter upon impact.

By maintaining your doors, you can minimize potential safety hazards.

  • Supervision is Key

Supervision is the ultimate safety measure regardless of how well you childproof your Scandinavian home. Always keep a watchful eye on your children, especially when they are near glass doors.

This way, you can quickly intervene if they exhibit risky behavior or attempt to access restricted areas.

Childproofing your Scandinavian home while preserving its elegant design and functionality is entirely possible, especially when it comes to glass door safety. Understanding the risks, using appropriate safety measures like locks and films, and teaching your children safe behavior can balance aesthetics and security.

And when it comes to finding high-quality glass doors that are both stylish and safe, you might want to consider Dominius, a trusted name in the industry. Dominius offers a range of glass door options that can seamlessly fit into your Scandinavian home design while also meeting your safety needs.

Remember that a safe home is a happy home, and with these tips in mind, you can enjoy your beautiful Scandinavian space while ensuring the safety of your little ones.

Signs of truly happy families https://www.chefmessy.com/signs-of-truly-happy-families/ Sun, 16 Oct 2022 13:46:00 +0000 https://www.chefmessy.com/?p=79 In a happy family, everyone's activities are respected and no one opens wide the door to their room when there is a lock on the children or spouse.

When we see beautiful and colorful pictures on social media, we think that many families around us are perfect. But the truth is, there are no perfect families. Everyone has flaws, and our families are made up of imperfect people with their pluses and minuses, weaknesses and strengths. So what do we mean when we talk about a happy family?

Support
In a happy, strong family, no one goes through their troubles and sorrows alone. Everyone has a shoulder to lean on and a shoulder to cry into. Everyone can speak up and talk about their worries without fear of being laughed at or misunderstood.

Respect for privacy
In a happy family, everyone’s activities are respected and no one opens wide the door to their room when there is a lock on the children or spouse. You must remember that everyone needs time for themselves and personal space.

Trust
This point applies not only to spouses, as is commonly believed, but also to parents and children. Trust can be earned over years and broken in an instant. It’s hard to imagine married life without grits of mistrust on the part of one or the other partner. In the stories of some couples, there is infidelity that has been decided to forgive. But for many, it remains a heavy burden.

Sexual life satisfies both spouses
Of course, over time, the passion between spouses begins to fade, giving way to deep respect and tenderness. But this does not mean that you should just let things drift away. Passion needs to be maintained and experimented with.

The ability to distribute responsibilities.
Very unpleasant and familiar to many people a situation where all the work at home falls on the shoulders of any one member of the family. The best solution is to make a schedule and agree on who will do what duties. Perhaps one of you really enjoys watering the flowers, someone loves to vacuum, and one of the children likes to chase the cat with a vacuum cleaner in his hands?

Shared recreational activities
In addition to duties you should unite and common hobbies and entertainment. Even a simple evening viewing the news, after which the whole family will discuss how your day was. Communication with loved ones is able to lift everyone’s spirits. Even little things like texting each other throughout the day can bring even the biggest happy family together even more.

Family traditions
Family traditions give a sense of unity and security. For example, your family tradition might be a monthly walk in the park, a family dinner every Saturday morning.

You are not afraid to speak your mind
If someone, without wishing it, has hurt you or made you uncomfortable, it is worth saying so directly. Often people do not even notice how they hurt someone around them, and because of the misunderstandings respect in the family begins to fade, and the family warmth evaporates.

Parenting is not such a big problem if you mean by this word: help your child help himself, help him learn to live and play with others, carefully explore everything new, deal with his feelings, develop his interests.

This is not easy at all. There is no magic “right way.” The methods you use to discipline or raise your child depend on all those characteristics that make your family different from others. Discipline is not about making your child do what you want. You can’t force your baby to be “good”; of course, some children will stop doing things you don’t like after yelling and spanking you to please them.

Children are most naughty when their parents are constantly busy with their own affairs, are very stressed or are going through difficult times. So it’s important to remember that children usually repeat their parents’ behavior. And being aware of this responsibility, pay attention to how you behave, because children absorb everything like a “sponge.”

The following tips will help you navigate parenting issues.

Praise more instead of punishment.
Babies love to be praised, they love to please. They really want to be noticed. If you encourage their behavior, which you like, the child will try even harder to please you. Hugs, smiles, and showing your parent’s interest in what they are doing are the best rewards and motivation for your child.

Be reasonable in your expectations
Energetic, very agile toddlers just don’t perceive concepts like “be careful”, “be quiet”, “wait”, etc. Give them time to think about what you say, show them by example how to do it, and reinforce the new knowledge by doing the necessary behavior with your child and so you will help your child learn the new behavior.

Use the word “no” when you really need it
The child needs you to set clear boundaries on acceptable behavior. If he can get away with anything, he will be very confused and perplexed; but you must decide what is really important. Your child will learn the rules faster if there aren’t so many of them.

Learn to negotiate with your child.
You can’t make your baby eat, sleep and go to the bathroom exactly when you want him to. You will not achieve obedience, causing more and more conflicts. Understanding how children form the necessary behaviors and being able to negotiate in advance with your child will help you minimize conflicts and build your relationship…

Distract your child or try your own tricks to shift your child’s attention to positive things
It’s usually easy to shift your baby’s attention from something you don’t like to something more enjoyable. Diversion doesn’t mean you’ve “given up,” but it can work wonders.

Be persistent in what’s important.
Threats and nagging won’t get you the results you need. Toddlers quickly learn to ignore the constant stream of phrases like, “If you don’t stop touching the TV, I’ll punish you.”

It can be difficult to organize your home space properly. Especially if you are not a clean person by nature. However, even the most organized people are not magicians – they just follow proven rules and tricks that gradually turn into habits. You can do the same – start with these simple tips.

Allocate each item to its own place
Knowing how to put each item in its own place makes the difference between people who constantly lose their keys, glasses or purse and those who always know where to find what they need. When each item has its own “home,” the question of where to put something simply doesn’t arise. And if an item is left “homeless” all the time, think about whether you need it at all.

Replace one thing with another.
When you bring something new into the house – whether it’s clothes, a toy, or a book – take a close look at everything you already have. Maybe you’ll find a T-shirt in your closet that you haven’t worn in a year, so a new one can take its place. And you can give the old stuff away, for example, to charity.

Tuck stuff away in the same place.
Keep a drawer in your closet for small stuff. Put the things you need that have nowhere else to put there. Try not to let one drawer turn into several. If it does, it’s time to clear out the piles and throw away what you don’t need.

Store small things in big ones.
Instead of spending hours thinking about how to fit everything in your closet, put things together. That way they take up less space and are much easier to find. For example, you can tuck smaller suitcases into larger suitcases.

Store things vertically
When you don’t have enough space, you can put things on the refrigerator or kitchen cabinets. Yes, you’ll have to get up on a chair to get everything out, but you won’t clutter up useful space with things you don’t use too often.

Use hooks.
Attach as many hooks as you can to the inside of doors, walls, and other places where you need extra space. Now, instead of throwing your jacket on a chair after work or putting a towel on the washing machine, you can hang them neatly.

Try a hanging shoe case
This is a very effective element of space organization. You can put a lot of things in such a case, and it can also be placed in a narrow space, such as a closet. You don’t need to put your shoes in the shoebox, just keep cleaning supplies, toys, cosmetics, or anything else you can think of.

Clean up on your own time.
Got a few minutes to spare? Get rid of things you don’t need. Organized people don’t wait for a general cleaning, they take every opportunity to make the space around them at least a little bit cleaner.

Put away children’s toys and pets’ toys.
Put away 50-75% of your toys in the closet so they’re not lying around the house. And once your child or pet gets bored with the old toys, you can replace them with “new” toys.
